Jacqueline Fernandez grew up in Bahrain, Manama. She is Sri Lankan and comes from a diverse ethnic background. Her father Elroy Fernandez is from Sri Lanka (Sinhalese - Catholic)and her mother Kim is a Malaysian. Jacqueline is the youngest of two brothers and a brother who is older. In the wake of turmoil in Sri Lanka, her family moved to Bahrain in the early 1980s. Schooling was finished at Bahrain and she was awarded a Scholarship to attend at the University of Sydney. There she graduated with the Media and Communications degree. With a love of the world of languages and cultures, she joined the Berlitz school of languages, in which she was able to learn Spanish and improve her French as well as Arabic. Miss Sri Lanka 2006 won Miss Universe 2006 competition in March 2006. She also competed as Miss Universe 2006 also. In the wake of being crowned Miss Sri Lanka in 2006 Padukone was able to begin her work as a TV host. She was the host of the program Lanka Business Report which focused on business in Sri Lanka. Padukone's father is badminton-player Prakash Padukone. Padukone has had a childhood in Copenhagen and Bangalore. She was a badminton player at the national championships as young teenagers, however she decided to give her sporting career in order to pursue a career as a model. Padukone has Mangalorean roots and is fluent in Konkani as her primary language. Her lineage is from Padukone village, which is located in Kundapura Taluk in the Udupi District of Karnataka, the Indian state. Karnataka, India. Prakash Padukone is her father and was a badminton player with international recognition. Her mother works as an agent of travel.
